Professor Djénéba Traoré is currently Director General at the West Africa Institute (WAI) in Praia, Cabo Verde. She is Malian and holds a Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Humboldt University of Berlin, a postgraduate degree in the Educational Integration of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) from the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Montreal and a Bachelor degree in German from the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Bamako, in Mali. Being a Professor at the Faculty of Literature, Languages, Arts and Humanities (FLASH) of the University of Bamako, Djénéba Traoré has held several positions, including those of:

  • Rector of the University of Literatures and Humanities of Bamako (ULSHB), Mali: October 2011- December 2012;
  • Co-Director of the African Research Agenda on the Pedagogical Integration of the Information and Communication Technology in Education in Africa (PanAf): April 2009-June 2011;
  • Regional Coordinator of Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA): April 2009-June 2011;
  • Member of the Faculty Council at the University of Bamako (2006-2009);
  • Member of the Pedagogical and Scientific Council of the University of Bamako (2006-2009);
  • Senior Advisor, in charge of communication at the Ministry of National Education of Mali (July 2000-May 2003);
  • Expert of the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES) on the Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas Program (1995-1999);
  • Secretary General of the National Commission in charge of diplomas equivalency at the National Directorate of Higher Education (1991-2000);
  • Member of the Task-Force in charge of the creation the University of Mali (1993-1996).

 OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

Prof. Traoré is also a consultant in matters relating to “Gender” for the African Center for Training and Administrative Research for Development (CAFRAD), trainer on “HIV/AIDS” for the World Food Program (WFP), resource person of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).Prof. Djénéba Traoré is the author of several publications on the role and place of women in the administration (and society) in Mali, African literature, German literature and the integration of information and communication technologies in education in Africa. She speaks and writes fluently French, German, English and Spanish. In addition she has basic knowledge in Portuguese.Selected in 2008 by the Fulbright Program of the United States of America, Djénéba Traoré has been sojourning from October 2008 to March 2009 at the Indiana University in Bloomington, where she conducted research on African literature. She also performed an Occasional Lecturer Program (OLP) at the Northern Michigan University (NMU) of Marquette on African Literature and Gender related issues.

She received the ELES Research Excellence&Lifetime Award at the E-Learning/E-Health for Africa (ELES4A) Conference 2012 and was nominated Ambassador for ELES and in 2016 the Pan-African Humanitarian Award on Academic Excellence and Community Development.

  • October 27th, 2008 – March, 26, 2009: Fulbright Scholar on the topic: “African literature – from the oral tradition to current trends”. Host Institution: African Studies Program of the Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington.
