French Ambassador to Cape Verde Philippe Barbry visits WAI

barbryWest Africa Institute was visited on Tuesday, February 28, 2013 by Philippe Barbry, Ambassador of France to Cape Verde. He was accompanied by Mrs Graziella Neves-Forte Canihac, Secretary for Cooperation and Cultural Action.

Thanking the guests for their visit, the Chairman of the Board of West Africa Institute, Mr. José Brito, presented the genesis of the creation of WAI and highlighted the ambitions of the Institute. He noted that WAI aims to be a think tank focused on the challenges of regional integration in West Africa and a helping tool for decision-making for regional integration organizations.

The Director General of WAI, Professor Djénéba Traoré, presented the objectives and the missions of the Institute through its activities such as innovative research on regional integration and social transformations, scientific and political dialogue, capacity building and establishing of strategic partnerships seeking with similar institutions.

The Research Program Manager, Professor Wautabouna Outtara, briefly reviewed the results achieved by WAI and provided an overview of the studies already conducted. He also mentioned the ongoing activities for 2013.

Philippe Barbry expressed a particular interest in the activities of the Institute. He indicated that opportunities for strategic partnerships could be established with Universities and research centers in France which focuses on the issues of regional integration between Europe and Africa.
