WAI Director General participates in the Workshop for Validation of Studies conducted by the WGNFE-ADEA

GTENF ADEA PicThe workshop on the validation of the studies conducted in 2014 by the Working Group on Non Formal Education (WGNFE) of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) which took place from 8 to 10 December 2014 at the Pacific Hotel in Ouagadougou under the umbrella of the Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENA) of Burkina Faso. The Swiss Cooperation, the WGNFE Coordination, representatives of the working groups of member countries (Senegal, Niger, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso), international institutions (UIL, WAI, ERNWACA) and the Consultants who led the various studies participated in the workshop.

WAI at the Francophone Innovation Forum, 23-25 September 14, Namur Belgium

WAI st Francophony Inn ForumRWAI Director General presents at the Forum on “the overview of the ECOWAS Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation (ECOPOST).

The Francophone Innovation Forum took place in the aftermath of the launch of the French Innovation Network (FINNOV) in July 2013 by the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), in partnership with the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and in collaboration with the Francophone University Agency (AUF). Responding to the aspiration of the Heads of State and Government that use the French language to make innovation one of the top priorities of the Francophonie, FINNOV’s main objectives are: the strengthening of innovation initiatives, the development of trade between players and strengthening and supporting the dissemination of innovation.

Malian Minister of Malians Abroad visits WAI

Malien Minister at WAI RICHTIGWAI Director General hosted on August 21, 2014, Mr. Abderrahmane Sylla , Minister of Malians Abroad, in the framework of a working and friendship visit to the Government of Cabo Verde . The Minister was willing to inquire about the situation of WAI and the progress made in the area of research on regional integration and social transformations in West Africa. He pledged his support towards consolidating the achievements of the Institute.

WAI Director General presents at the 1st edition of the UEMOA Integration Conferences on the theme:. " Integration in West Africa: Legacy of the Past and Dynamics of the Future", Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, September 30, 2014

WAI Contribution to UEMOAThe Integration Conferences, instituted by Mr. Cheick Hadjibou Soumaré, President of the Commission of the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (UEMOA) form part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the UEMOA.

These conferences, to be held every six months, have been designed mainly to enable knowledge sharing among researchers of the eight member States of UEMOA. Speaking on behalf of the President of the Commission, the Commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Essowé Barcola, gave the assurance that the proposed solutions and the resolutions that will be taken during the presentations and discussions will help remove obstacles and build a union of peace and prosperity.

The first edition was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in Ouagadougou, on the theme: «Integration in West Africa: Legacy of the Past and Dynamics of the Future».

The main objective of this conference was to better understand the issues of integration in West Africa, especially through the capitalization of historic ties between the countries which connects the countries to form solid blocks, in the face of challenges of current global realities and future development.

Two themes were developed over three hour period. In her contribution, entitled «Regional Integration in West Africa: History - Challenges, Issues and Possible Futures», the Director General of the West Africa Institute (WAI), Prof. Dr. Djénéba Traoré, traced the history of regional integration in West Africa from the 8th century to the present day, and noted that the past of the African Great Empires was promising before the advent of slavery and of colonization. She emphasized that although significant progress has been made ​​by States after gaining independence, many challenges remain to be addressed, including, regional integration, quality of education and access to health for all, peacekeeping and security, good governance and the fight against poverty.

Professor Boubacar Barry University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), in his presentation «West Africa: the fragmentation of an integrated space» explained how colonization contributed to the fragmentation of Africa at three levels: at the political level , at the level of historical consciousness of the people and finally, at the level of African knowledge, which, according to him, is a serious handicap to the development of people.
