The West Africa Institute (WAI), in Praia, Cabo Verde has been in existence since 28th June, 2010. Being a research Institute focused on regional integration and social transformations, WAI continues to pursue its agenda of collaborating with like-minded organizations to ensure that political decision-making in West Africa is underpinned with scientific research. Conscious of the pivotal role that a well-resourced library plays in research and academic institutes, the institute established the WAI Library in 2013.

The WAI Library aims at providing a comprehensive literature mainly on regional integration and social transformations to enable the institute achieve its vision of promoting knowledge on regional integration through innovative research and policy dialogue, as well as training a new generation of elites on issues relating to regional integration in Africa.   So far, the WAI Library has a small but rich collection of scholarly materials on regional integration and social transformations, supplied mainly by the library’s main financier,German Ministry of Education (BMBF),through the Center for European Integrations Studies (ZEI) at the University of Bonn.

Any contribution of books or other documentation will help equip the WAI Library with a collection of cutting-edge scholarly material that will go a long way to support our research projects and pedagogy of our planned Master program on regional integration in Africa at the University of Cabo Verde (UNI-CV). The WAI Library will consider with pleasure all gifts of recorded information which meet the instructional and research needs of the West Africa Institute. WAI is therefore by this appeal urging all who share in WAI’s vision to contribute documentation, both electronic and hard copies, to the WAI library. While we appreciate any offer of books, we will be exceedingly glad if donors could take into consideration our parameters for accepting donated materials, motivated by our wish to make the library user-friendly. . Being a research institute with many loosely affiliated fellows and users of the library living outside of Praia, books on regional integration and social transformations, in particular, e-books, will be more preferable.
