Ghana Ambassador visits the West Africa Institute

Ghana Ambassador 1The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana accredited to the Republic of CaboVerde has made on March 17, 2015 an outreach visit to the West Africa Institute (WAI). HE Mrs. Irene Maamah was accompanied by Mr. Clarence KH Tamakloe, Plenipotentiary Minister, and the Honorary Consul of Ghana, Mr. Tony Parker Danso.

The visit was part of the partnership-exchanges on the role of WAI in the process of regional integration in the West African region.

Ghana Ambassador2In particular, the discussions focused on the specific research topics of WAI, including the free movement of people, goods and capital, the challenges of the single currency, the implementation of the Common External Tariff (TEC), the role of the different civil society stakeholders in the area of social transformations and the fight against poverty which is a top priority.

Ghana Ambassador suggested to the Director General, Prof. Dr. Djénéba Traoré, that WAI establishes a state of arts of all signed agreements and protocols since the creation of the regional organization in 1975. She also mentioned the pending projects regarding the creation of ECOWAS television and radio channels, as well as a regional airline and a regional shipping line.

Both parties agreed that on the one hand, innovative solutions can be considered when one relies on education and on the other hand that it is urgent to eradicate poverty by improving the quality of life of the most disadvantaged social groups.

The meeting ended after an hour and a half of fruitful exchanges.
