Recherche biographique 1Chaired by  Professor Odair Varela and moderated by Dr. Corsino Tolentino, the seminar on "Biographical Research and Migratory Experience" organized by WAI was hosted by the Instituto Superior de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais (ISCJS) of Praia. The event featured lectures by Professor Christine Delory-Momberger and Michael Félix Gadras respectively on the themes:

  • “Biographical Research and Migratory Experience” and
  • “Biographical research and the Ordeal of migration: The Collectif Sorins’ looking forward to regularization”.

Recherche biographique 2The two presentations were followed by fruitful discussions on conceptualization and a methodological approach to biographical stories applied to the research on migration issues on the one hand, and on the other hand, to research on migration policies in Africa in general, and in West Africa in particular.

Since 2010, under the coordination of Dr. Corsino Tolentino, WAI has been part of a collaborative research project on migration together with “Centro de Estudos Sociais” (CES) of the University of Coimbra, Portugal and the international association «Le Sujet dans la Cité» (LSC). Within this framework, a seminar on the theme was held on September 5, 2013, in Praia, Cabo Verde. On 20th February, 2014, Prof. Delory-Momberger was in Praia to share her research findings which she could not present in September 2013.

Recherche biographique 3It is important to note that the Symposium closing the project "Migrations and Biographical Stories" was held at the Centre of Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, in Portugal, on January 30th to 31st, 2014. During the Coimbra conference, Professor Djénéba Traoré, Director General of WAI, at the request of Professor Elsa Lechner, the initiator of the project, proposed the extension of this innovative partnership with the Universities of Coimbra and Paris XIII by creating a Master program focused on the Study and Research on migration, which would also include institutions of higher education of Cabo Verde and Mali. The objective is to improve knowledge on migration and to promote technical and political dialogue between the various stakeholders, in order to contribute efficiently to the integration of migration issues in sectorial policies.

The session was closed with the sharing of the documentary: "Hidden Faces", by Pierre Delagrange.
