A Delegation from the South African Embassy in Senegal visits WAI, 4th March, 2019

IMG 5143The West Africa Institute (WAI) received on March 4th, 2019, the visit of a delegation of the South African Embassy in Senegal accompanied by the Honorary Consul of South Africa in Cabo Verde (https://www.embassy, Mr. Ilídio Alexandre da Cruz.

The delegation, who was sojourning in Praia in the frame of the reinforcement of the diplomatic and academic relationships between South Africa and Cabo Verde, consisted in Mrs. Clara Kiesewetter, Counsellor Political and Mrs. Levina Govender, First Secretary Political.The South African Embassy in Senegal is based in Dakar and constitutes one of 211 South African diplomatic and consular representations abroad.


The members of delegation and the Director General of WAI addressed the following issues:

- The requirements for an entry visa to South Africa for West African citizens needing to apply.

- The missions, research activities including the publications of the West Africa Institute (WAI).

- The Master Program in African Regional Integration - MARI 

taught at the University of Cabo Verde – Uni-CV

The Master in African Regional Integration (MARI) has been created in the framework of the scientific collaborationIMG 2071 1 project between WAI and the Centre for European Integration Studies - Zentrum für Europäische Integrationsforschung (ZEI) of the University of Bonn, Germany, that has been implemented from 2012 to 2016 with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The training program , started in January 2017, is managed by Prof. Dr. Odair Barros Varela.

Mrs. Clara Kiesewetter and Prof. Dr. Traoré both underlined the great opportunity that the MARI Program represents for promoting South-South academic cooperation between South Africa and Cabo Verde.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties have decided to maintain the maintain the contact in order to continue the fruitful dialogue.
