HE Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission visits WAI

IMG E1529The President of the    ECOWAS Commission, HE Jean Claude Kassi Brou, visited the West Africa Institute (WAI) on November 2, 2018, as part of an official visit he carried out with the State and the Government of the Republic of Cabo Verde.

Welcomed on his arrival by Mr. José Brito, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WAI and Prof. Djénéba Traoré, WAI Director General, the President of the ECOWAS Commission headed a delegation composed of the Commissioner in charge of Human Resources, Prof. Jeremias Dias Furtado, the Director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Alain Sy Traoré and other executives.

  

During the meeting between the two parties, WAI Chairman thanked the President of the ECOWAS Commission for his presence at the headquarters of the Institute and recalled the background of the creation of the West Africa Institute as a think tank whose research focuses on regional integration and social transformations in West Africa.Ecowas 5

He also pointed out that the WAI has established a 2016-2020 strategic plan to support ECOWAS in promoting and accelerating the regional integration process through the missions assigned to it.

WAI Director General emphasized the valuable results achieved by the Institute since its creation in 2010 in terms of innovative research, publications, capacity building including the creation of

the Master in African Regional Integration ( MARI), delivered since January 2017 by the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV), dialogue sessions and the establishment of strategic partnerships with a significant number of state and non-state actors, as well as organizations international and regional In addition, she informed the Commission of the WAI document on the Institute's support to the ECOWAS Vision Post 2020.

 

Ecowas 4Taking the floor, HE Jean Claude Kassi Brou claimed that the concept of regional integration needed to be better known in order to ensure the successful transition of ECOWAS of the States to ECOWAS Peoples, in accordance with the Vision 2020 of the Regional Organization. He emphasized the region's necessary economic transformation and the close link between political integration and economic integration, and recalled all the challenges to achieving the goals set.

After short but fruitful exchanges, the President of the ECOWAS Commission and his delegation took left after giving the assurance of his willingness to continue the partnership with the West Africa Institute (WAI).
