The Director General of WAI takes part in the 12th Meeting of the Strategic Planning Coordinating Committee (SPCC), Saly, Senegal, 3-6 April 2017

Organized by the ECOWAS Center for Gender Development (CCDG)

with the support

of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the 12th Meeting

of the Strategic Planning Coordinating Committee (SPCC) was held in Saly, Senegal, from 3 - 6 March 2017.

Eighteen (18) Institutions and Agencies, including the West Africa Institute (WAI) attended the meeting, which mainly aimed at the following objectives:

- Inform the members of the Committee of the progress of the

ECOWAS strategic documents;

- Adopt a Strategic Action Program of all and Institutions

and Agency using the Community Strategic Framework

(CSF) model to ensure a common framework for planning and

budgetary purposes.

- Train members of the Committee in the tools of the CSF 2016 - 2020.

- Review and discuss the document on the policies, standards

and procedures of ECOWAS programs.

- Strengthen the platform for institutional collaboration and

improve accession and ownership in the implementation of the

2016-2020 CSF.

The opening speech was delivered by the Commissioner

for Finance of ECOWAS, representing the Vice-President of

ECOWAS Commission and Chairman of the SPCC.

 
Introducting  the working session, the Director of Strategic Planning 
(DPS) transmitted the necessary information for a common understanding in order to ensure
the smooth running of the session.
 
In her different interventions, the Director General of WAI, Prof. Djénéba Traoré underlined 
the importance of taking two facts into account: on the one hand, the asset of research in
order to successfully achieve the objectives set out in the 2016-2020 CSF and on the other
hand, to create an ECOWAS television and radio channel in order to inform, raise awareness
and to train the people who are basically at the very center of ECOWAS Vision 2020.
 
At the end of the fruitful consultations, the meeting made series of recommendations to the 
Institutes and Agencies, on the budgetary standards and procedures to be implemented,
on the resources mobilization which should be in strict compliance with the existing
Community protocols and texts, as well as on the clarification about the involvement of the
civil society in the policies, standards and procedures of ECOWAS programs, and in
particular on the way it can provide support.
