The President of ECOWAS Commission, HE Mr. Marcel Alain de Souza meets WAI Managers in Praia, Republic of Cabo Verde

 The President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), His Excellency Marcel Alain de Souza, made an official visit to the Cabo Verdeans authorities from 12 to 15 February 2017, during which he met with a delegation consisting of the Chairman of WAI Board of Directors, HE José Brito, the Director General of WAI, Prof. Djénéba Traoré and the Academic Director of the Master Program in African Regional Integration (MARI), Prof. Odair Barros Varela.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Dr. Isaias Barreto Olimpio Da Rosa, and the Commissioner for Human Resources, Dr. Joao José Silva Monteiro, Mrs. Elisângela Andrade Carvalho, Diplomatic Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communities of Cabo Verde and Coordinator of ECOWAS National Unit, as well as  as well as of Mr Franck Willy Brathier, Assistant to the President.

The discussions focused on the following points:

- The history of the creation of WAI as well as an overview of the achievements of the Institute for a sustainable regional integration of ECOWAS Member States.

- The scientific activities to be included in the partnership established between the Commission ECOWAS and WAI.

- The transformation of the IAO into an ECOWAS Specialized Agency.

- The presentation of the Master’s Program in African Regional Integration (MARI) implemented at the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) since 23 January 2017.

At the end of the exchanges, which were extremely cordial, HE Mr. Marcel de Souza expressed his willingness to support the research efforts of WAI aiming at accelerating the regional integration process in West Africa for a stronger and more dynamic economic Community capable of meeting the current challenges.
