As part of an official mission to the Government of the Republic of Cabo Verde,
including a working session with the UNESCO National Office, the Regional
Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Dakar, Madam Ann Therese
Ndong-Jatta paid a courtesy visit
to the West Africa Institute (WAI) on July 20, 2016.
Welcomed by WAI Director General, Prof. Djénéba Traoré, Madam Ndong-Jatta
pointed out that the purpose of her visit was to congratulate and support the staff
of the Institute for its efforts in the accomplishment of the missions assigned to it.
Thanking the Regional Director of UNESCO-BREDA, WAI Director General
gave an update on the research activities and the administrative functioning
of WAI, highlighting the progress made, especially in terms of new partnerships.
As reminder, UNESCO is one of the five Promoters and Strategic Partners of WAI.
BREDA (Regional Office for Education in Africa), based in Dakar, represents
UNESCO in seven West African countries (Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde,
The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger and Senegal) and covers not only
the field of education,
but also social and human sciences, natural sciences, culture, as well as
communication and information.
